A variety of plumes taken from different species to form a body of a creature so as to help in flying is called fly tying feathers. Once one mentions feathers in the traditional setup, flying comes in the mind of a person. The barbs can be used on salmon fish, insects and animals too. The tail, head, legs, abdomen and thorax, are components that can be constructed by the quills to make a fly. The users prefer the artificial creativity as it brings a good look.

There are many types of plumes with each having its different properties. The most common type of plume is the CDC. It is finding its way into North America but if one wants to find it, it is common in Europe. The bird has an oil gland from which these quills are taken. They can be called oil gland plumes. It is water resistant because the birds are able to supply oil that is rich and helps in flying.

The next type of fly tying quills is the golden pleasant. As the name suggests, it is very pleasing and colorful in nature. It is very attractive and appealing to the eye. It attracts the attention of the observer while in water by spreading its plumes. They are organized in a pattern-like manner for the tail and wings. Golden pleasant quills make it possible for birds to fly swiftly.

The goose biots are quills found on the edge of the flight wings. These goose biots are shaped appropriately to create a dry fly for the creatures. They are not easy to work with but when the user gets the necessary information and tips on how to use it well, it turns out to be the best. The material used is resilient and long lasting when you soak it in water for two months. This prevents it from becoming fragile. These feathers are divided into two and the flyer chooses the one he wants to use.

The other distinctive plumes are the hackle feathers. This is a group of fine hair that has different characteristics from the others. These characteristics come as a result of two species contributing different colored feathers. They are then placed on the back of a bird, the shoulders and the neck. Hackle quills can be used in a dry fly or a wet fly. This type has got a physically powerful nature and is stiff.

The client may also use the marabou fluffy. It tends to have thin and long fine hair and is from the sub Sahara region. Its acquisition was illegal but it is now legal. The marabou fluffy is commonly used to make legs. The ostrich provides fly tying plumes that can be used for the head, tail and legs. Ostrich plumes are not colorful. They work efficiently though.

The partridge skin plumes are a soft type. Because of this, they are used in insects to construct the legs, body and tail. The parachute flies is made from the partridge skin and in different patterns too. The user should therefore be very careful when handling such types of plumes.

The peacock is very beautiful in appearance. It has attractive features that are used as fly tying feathers. They are called the peacock herl. Its quills are well built and provide existence in water during movement. Using the artificial fly patterns, the peacock herl plumes form a good tail. The pheasant quill is all round as it can serve many purposes. In conclusion, the fly tying feathers are a wise innovation to help in floating while in water.
