Holiday Centerpieces For Your Home

By Shawna Trujillo

Holiday centerpieces are a staple at the family table. There is good reason for this. During this special time of year people enjoy going all out. They like to make everything even more special. This includes dinner and the table that dinner is served at. There are some tips that anyone can follow to ensure that their centerpiece is fabulous without being over the top.

Look for glass bowls or jars. These can be filled with ornaments. Use gorgeous glittery ornaments for a more festive look. Think green, red, gold or silver. Add some battery operated twinkle lights for extra sparkle. If you do not have glass bowls or jars that feel right, take out a charger plate. These large plates are found in silver, gold and other colors of the season. Use ornaments in the same color as the charger plate for a nice display.

Do not make it so large that it will feel crowded. Remember that you are going to have plates, people and food sitting around. Something that takes up too much space will make it difficult to place food on the table. It may make those eating feel closed in and uncomfortable. Keep the comfort of those dining in mind when designing your centerpiece.

Keeping with the above theme you can also use Christmas plates filled with ornaments to match the plate color. Large jars can also be filled with ornaments. Again use battery operated lights to give the table a festive twinkle. Look around and you will find plenty of containers suitable for holding ornaments.

Twinkle lights are perfect for the holiday table. However, you do not want a tangle of wires laying around. For this reason battery operated lights are wonderful. They let you place lights anywhere that you want. You no longer have to worry about having an outlet nearby.

If you and the kids have put together and decorated a gingerbread house, that will make a wonderful centerpiece. Give it the place of honor that it deserves. Not only will it look adorable but as you and the children look at it, you will be reminded of the fun you had making it. That is after all what the holidays are all about, family, friends and making memories.

Another area to pay attention to is how much space it takes up if you are using it on the dining table. Make sure there is room for everyone to comfortably sit and eat dinner. Keep in mind that you will be placing food there too and will need room for that. It should not feel crowded.

Holiday centerpieces do not have to be elaborate. They can be simple and easy. Take the time to decorate your table for the holidays. One piece of advice to remember is to not go overboard. Remember that you still want to be able to eat and you want to be able to see one another. Do not make the space so crowded that it become uncomfortable to those sitting there eating dinner.
