You want to be in a successful band? Then Read This!

By Terry Tibbs

Are you passionate about music and dream of being a world famous rock star?

You can't do it on your own though, (well actually you could be a singer but that isn't what we are talking about now) so you need to get a band together. You may well know some people who would want to get involved as well but even with them you could be missing some vital pieces.

What to do? Who else do you need? A drummer? A rhythm guitarist? Keyboard player? etc. Did you know that you can find band members online? It goes without saying that the best way to find musicians is probably in your own circle of friends.

It might be more straight forward initially to start a band with your friends and associates but over time if things turn sour then there could be some unforeseen fallout. But let's not worry about that , you have loads of bad ass ideas for your new band's name, right?

The type of music you play will probably have a great influence over the name. You can't choose a name like "Uncontrollable Sausage Molesters" for a rock group (or maybe you could?).

As well as the type of music you play, your prospective audience might have an influence on the name of your band. You don't want to alienate potential new fans or limit your chances of exposure by having a name that's offensive or not broadcast-able.

As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect and even if you're not planning on being perfect, you still need to practice. To do that, you are going to need a place to play. Do you or one of your band members have a garage or basement or somewhere else suitable that you can use to play. If not then you're probably going to have to look into hiring rehearsal space.

Practice, practice, practice. Start practising with your band mates and come up with your own music, then practice and fine tune some more until you have some guaranteed hits.

Start playing live venues, lay down some tracks. This is the "go for it" material, it has to be the best of your work, so choose the "go for it" material carefully. Because this will be your "opening statement", this is how you will win people's minds and souls.

Get the word out using flyers, your own website, Facebook page, twitter account, music blogs. Do all that you have to do to promote yourself.

Upload your music to YOUTUBE and hope it goes viral, once you've done that you'll get more chances to be popular, who knows, maybe a great manager will find out about it and see the potential of your work.

At the end of the day, don't expect to become an overnight sensation, if you do that's great but in the mean time, don't stop believing. Hold on to that feeling.

Don't spend your life wondering 'what if?' give it a try and find out.
