If you are interested in quilting, then patchwork quilting will certainly interest you. Learning how to make a patchwork quilt doesn't requireyears of experience. All you need is the enthusiasm and patience to learn the skill. If you stick to the instructions and guidelines carefully, you will be making wonderful patchwork quilts within no time. Here in this article, we are going to offer step by step instructions on making a good patchwork quilt.

Step 1 - Select your desired cotton fabrics and then pre-wash them to shrink the material. Press and iron out if there are any visible wrinkles in the square fabric or backing. Now you have to think about the size of the quilt that you want to make, the desired pattern, where the ties will be and how you would choose to lay out the squares in the quilt.

Step 2 - Determine the exact length and width of the quilt squares that you'd like. If you choose to have bigger sized squares, then you might have to perform more sewing work. Measure the square size and cut out the squares. Cut any loose threads.

Step 3 - Now you have got the cut squares ready. The next move will be to layout a pattern with these cut squares. The final patchwork quilt pattern should emerge by now. Now start with the sewing work. You need to start with a single seam, down the pinned sides. The squares need to be added one after another until you complete a single row. It is up to you to decide what number of rows you would have. All you need to do is to stitch them together to finish the top. Afterwards, iron the seams flatly on the back.

Step 4 - Lay the backing's outside part on a clean, flat area. Use basting spray to spray on it. Smooth out the top of the patchwork quilt over the bottom side of the batting until you flatten all three layers. Make certain that they're free of any wrinkles.

Step 5 - The next step is to start cutting the ties. With each tie, thread a needle and then lay down the quilt backing with the side up. The ties then need to be stitched in place. They are typically placed at the corner of every square. From the quilt's underneath, push the needle forward through the quilt. Knot together the loose tie ends on the top and trim excess using scissors.

Step 6 - The next step is to trim the batting and the quilt from all sides with the help of scissors and ruler. Make sure that they are about half an inch smaller than the backing. Create a binding by folding the half-inch backing over the batting. Then, pin it carefully on place. You may choose hand stitching or machine stitching the binding. Last of all, take away all basting stitches and pins.

These are the basic steps involved in creating a patchwork quilt.
