Benefits Of An Air Purifier For Nail Salon Use

By Leslie Mitchell

Salon owners may well find that there is a lot of dust build up and chemical odors inside their business premises. This is not only undesirable for both clients and staff members but can even lead to health problems. Thankfully there is a simple solution which is to purchase and use an air purifier for nail salon use.

A trip to the salon to have their nails done is a pleasurable experience for a lot of women and even some men as well. Sometimes they come alone and sometimes with a close friend or a few friends. However they come, the pleasure can easily be ruined and they will want to leave and not come back if they find they are exposed to a lot of dust and strong odors.

Due to the nature of their business, salons are often have limited space inside and may be located in a mall or other type of closed in building. These factors make ventilation a real challenge. Even if it is possible to get fresh air to blow throughout the salon this will not necessarily remove the dust and chemical odors.

During the process of filing and shaping nails dust is created. Some of this dust is the actual nail material that is filed away and some comes from tools used, like emery boards, which shed fine particles. This fine dust can easily give the place an unhygienic look and can also irritate the eyes or make breathing hard for customers and staff.

To remove old polish and apply acrylic nails, technicians must use products that contain chemicals that have been known to cause medical symptoms like; irritated, watery or burning eyes, headaches, dizziness, coughing, nausea, nose and throat irritation, shortness of breath, and lethargy (lack of energy). Some of the chemicals that may be contained in these products are; Acetone ammonia, toluene, ethanol, formaldehyde, polymethyl methacrylate, titanium dioxide, ethyl methacrylate, and methacrylic acid. To keep the environment healthy and pleasant for customers and nail technicians the odors and fumes these chemicals cause must be removed.

An air purifier that is intended for use in a salon is usually fitted with a High Efficiency Particle Arresting (HEPA) filter. These filters are very good at removing fine particles from the air, like those that make up dust, fluff and lint. A HEPA filter should be able to remove particulate matter that is bigger than 0.3 microns in size.

In order to remove chemical odors and fumes air purifiers use another type of filter that acts as a chemical "trap" to absorb and contain the odors. This method works very well as long as the filters are changed regularly. These filters work because they contain substances that absorb odors, for example carbon zeolite and potassium iodide.

There are several types of air purifier for nail salon use available to salon owners. There are differences in features and specifications between these devices so it is important to choose the best one for the salon's requirements. An air purifier that is well suited to the salon it operates in will make the place a much more pleasant and healthier place.
