A History Of Rock And Roll: Learning About Led Zeppelin

By Jason Larrsohn

If you are interested in music, it is likely that you are interested in rock and roll. Learning about how rock and roll came to be is a great way to find a new appreciation for the genre.

Whenever anyone has a discussion about rock and roll, they have to discuss The Beatles. The Beatles were arguably the most influential and famous rock and roll group of all time.

The band started their first tour in the UK in October of 1968, as the New Yardbirds. The played their first show officially named as Led Zeppelin on October 25th of 1968.

Their tour manager was named Richard Cole, and he organized their first North American tour shortly thereafter near the end of 1968. Richard would have a profound impact on the band as he would continue to be their tour manager for many years to come.

The Early Years

As a tour manager, Richard become a part of the framework of the everyday tour life of the band. Their first album, which was self-titled, was released in the United States in January of 1969, and peaked at number 10 on the Billboard chart.

Many critics of the album said that it marked a great turning point in hard rock and heavy metal. The band actually released the album while they were touring in the United States in January.

The next member of The Beatles we will talk about is George Harrison. With The Beatles, George Harrison usually just played guitar. Harrison sang from time to time as well though. Harrison also plays the sitar, keyboards, bass guitar, and the ukulele. George Harrison is unfortunately not alive today; he died in 2001 at the age of 58 from lung cancer.

This must've taken an incredible amount of mental and emotional stamina. Going on tour for that long can really be taxing on an individual, and especially a band.

Led Zeppelin is known for their blues rock musical style, which really came out on their second album. Many count Led Zeppelin has really making a name for the genre of heavy metal in general.

Albums as a Whole

Led Zeppelin liked people to listen to their albums from start to finish, and saw them as things that couldn't be divided up into singles. But the culture of the time wanted to divide up the albums because singles made for more easy listening.

And more easy listening made for more money. Led Zeppelin also did not like to do live TV performances.

When The Beatles were first starting out, people were obsessed with them. Historians and fans have deemed this period of time as "Beatlemania."

They wanted people to see their craft and how hard they had worked to create what they had created. Led Zeppelin's songs are on Youtube, so you have to use a youtube converted if you want to get their songs off youtube and onto your computer.
