How To Go About Making An Arabic Turban

By Kate McMahon

One of the many vital features within the Arabic faith is the turban. An Arabic turban is an item which must be possessed by all baptized persons. It is normally viewed as a sign of being courageous, honorable, holy and self respectful.

The headgear can be worn using many different methods. The aforementioned notwithstanding, one method that stands out from the rest is the one in which the wrapping is done around the head at least seven times. It may appear a bit higher in the central part and flatter on its side. The following are the steps that should be followed when tying a turban.

You will be required to buy a piece of fabric measuring 5 meters. The fabric should be washed before it is used in order to get rid of any excess starch that it may have. After washing and drying it, the fabric should be folded into half four times along its length. A little help in folding the fabric could come in handy.

The fabric should then be lined up so that its edges are a bit flush. You will then roll the fabric up carefully. Gather all your hair at the front part of your head and create a long rope by twisting it.

Position the twisted rope of hair at the top of the head. It should then be tied well using a square cloth. Hold the piece of square cloth well and tie it on the head, making sure that the tie is located at the back of the head. However, pull any remaining cloth and tie it at the front. Pakta, which is the other name for this cloth, is usually used to cover the hair before the headgear is worn.

With the help of your teeth, grasp the rolled up turban end. Roll it slowly to the back of the head and around the ear. This needs to be between 2 to 3 inches above the right ear;s side. After the first wrap, you should ensure that the left ear is not fully covered.

For the second time, wrap the headgear round the head. The wrap should be high on the left and low on the right, contrary to the previous one. The next wrap should be at the opposite side.

For five more times, the headgear should go round the head. This should be higher to the left and lower on the right side. Trimming any extra material with scissors is the next step. This is to enable proper tucking of the turban at the back of the head.

Finally, you need to pull out a few inches of the first wrap. The material should be unfolded and then spread over the head. The sides of the material should be firmly tucked into the turban part that encircles the head to cover it completely. Make sure you tuck all the excess material at the back. With all these steps well followed, you will end up with the perfect Arabic turban.
