Using Drone Photography For Security Purposes From A Professional Drone Pilot In Plantation FL

By Guy Stannard

Drone technology is rapidly becoming a staple for hobbyists, industrial and commercial applications and more. One area where camera equipped drone aircraft are becoming increasingly common is in security applications. The same advantages that drones have brought to agriculture, military, photography and other industries are just as applicable in the realm of security and loss prevention.

Patrol

Security guards walk building perimeters all of the time. Drones that have functional cameras, however, are able to cover a whole lot more ground. These units can take pictures and video footage of areas, events, and spaces. They are even able to survey areas that may be less accessible and that get patrolled less frequently such as rooftop areas or other remote spaces.

Suspect Egress Scouting

In the retail industry, it has been the norm for several years now that security would not confront or chase shoplifters. This has become generally accepted as it is thought that the fear and discomfort that seeing confrontations between security staff and shoplifters cause among regular customers outweigh the value of whatever has been stolen. By using camera equipped drones, security staff can observe perpetrators as they leave, recording their clothing, appearance, method, and direction of egress, and often times the vehicle type and license plate number. This may not stop shoplifters in the short term, but after enough security agencies start using them for this purpose, it will become widely known that drones will be deployed to follow and record shoplifters. This will create a valuable deterrence.

Evidence Collection & Surveying

Regular recorded patrols performed by drone aircraft can deliver valuable recurring records of key and remote portions of the property at issue. Drone patrols can be used to spot warning signs like cut fences, graffiti, vandalism, squatters, trespassers and more.

Best of all, drones can do all of these things while removing much of the need for dangerous confrontations. Rather than relying on the testimony of emotionally charged personnel, audio and video recordings can be used to provide a clear record of events and evidence. Drones are easy for security staff to learn to use and represent the cutting edge in security equipment.
