You can also think about imparting your skills to others. You can gift low-income families with the ability to make their own furniture and wood ornaments - to furnish their homes with objects they've made themselves, at costs far below retail prices. As with any endeavor, you have to start somewhere, and molding your eventual success takes time; before this can even turn into a 'fun' hobby, which it would, time and practice will be required. It is something to look forward to.

Begin by looking for help online.

On the internet, there is no shortage of trade tips. Googling specific areas of interest, reading general articles on carpentry, or - which I highly recommend - joining forums, where question directly relevant to your concerns can be posed, or very useful tips and tricks can be picked up on the fly from types that love sharing tricks learned over the years - from the very novice to the very experienced are found in forums, and they love interacting.

Basic guidance articles will stress the need for owning a variety of specialized tools. It often goes beyond just owning a saw to realize your plans. You'd probably need more than just one type of saw, for example - the applications of jigs and knives are also treated in sufficient detail, the best brands to use and the cheapest places to buy them. These are the basics, and will help you get started. On forums, wizards of the trade are also very keen to discuss the more arcane and specialized tools they've found useful over the years.

It is important, however, that whatever hobby you choose should satisfy you.

As far as hobbies/professions go, working with timber is very fulfilling. Building something nice with your own hands is guaranteed fulfillment. The medium of wood, the touch and smell and natural, pulpy malleability of it tickles the senses and touches the soul. This treat is part of what you can share with others once you get really into the game, and it's a blessing.

There's something about wood that calms and clears the mind of daily worries. Exploiting this feature further in creation, you're taken to a new level of fulfillment. Why are there so many people on forums taking about this very experience if it weren't so powerful?
