"The Autobiography of Malcolm X" is one story that anyone would enjoy reading. This tells the story of a man who fought for the rights of his people and how many others tried to stop his freedom fights. He was a man who appeared to be very angry at times during the 1960's when African Americans were being treated very poorly by white people.

"The Help" is a great story that chronicles the life of a twenty one year old white woman who was friends with her maid. There is another black woman who is also involved in the novel and she is someone who is bold and usually speaks her mind to others. The three women have a unique friendship that goes further than that of employer and domestic. In some regards the black woman was almost like a mother to the younger white woman.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Was a man who died while fighting for the rights of other individuals. The story "Martin's Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." tells about his life and struggles. He was determined to have people live in peace.

His widow Coretta Scott King was one of the main contributors to this novel and she remembers all of her husband's tough fights. Dr. King was the one who organized the bus boycotts in the south and he held many demonstrations that were non-violent.

Harriet Beecher Stowe struck gold when she wrote the very famous "Uncle Tom's Cabin". This is a very inspirational and classic story that dealt with heated controversy during its time. Even though many people argue over the anti-slavery sentiments of this story it is still regarded as one of the most captivating stories of our time.

The story of Ruby Bridges will truly break your heart. This is a fine story that deals with racism at its ugliest. When Ruby was six years old she had become the first African American child to attend an all white school. Adult white people showed how nasty they could truly be since they were the ones who tormented her on a daily basis because of her skin color.

"Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom" is one of the best black history books on the shelf. People need to hear the story about a strong lady of color who faced so many battles in her lifetime. She was able to overcome all of the unfair treatment that was given to her and became a strong leader for her people. She is always compared to Moses since she was able to lead her people to freedom the same way that he did in biblical times.
