The Best Tips On Turban Wrapping

By Sue Carpenter

Planning a traditional Indian wedding is no easy feat. You will need to have a wide variety of fine foods, gifts, and special garments among other accessories in order to make the ceremony a success. Owing to the importance of the occasion, grooms and their brides wear headdresses to complement their outfits. For this reason, it is important that you have some turban wrapping skills.

The Indians value turbans because they represent class and honor in the society. In addition, many people love these headdresses because they help them to enhance their looks. During special occasions such as wedding ceremonies, the preferred color for turbans is rich red, owing to its cultural significance and aesthetic value. The headgear can be decorated to give the wearer a distinct look.

Sherwanis are the garments of choice for any special occasion, especially Indian traditional weddings. Fortunately, turbans are designed to complement these garments, whether in white or off-white variety. The tricky bit is choosing the wrapping technique, though the 'twisted yam' is the most popular for the wedding ceremonies. You will require some basic skills in order to wrap your headdress properly.

Turbans are a significant part of dressing for many cultures around the world. Indians wear these headdresses for various reasons, ranging from fashion, culture, tradition, and even religious convictions. For this reason, you have to ensure that you select a color, style, and design of headgear that corresponds to the occasion and purpose. Whereas the color is easy to choose, you should learn how to wrap it for that perfect look.

The greatest challenge that you will face when wrapping your turban is hiding your hair curls. However, this is not a problem if you have turban caps and know how to set them correctly. First, you have to place some cotton strips on your head, and then set your caps at appropriate locations. These accessories will ensure that hair curls do not peep from under the headdress.

After placing the caps, you should position the palm of your hand on the head and then pull back the front end of the turban. Proceed by grabbing it from the back using your other hand and pull it from left to right, in a circular motion to make it tight. In effect, this wraps it firmly on your head. You should then repeat this procedure.

With the headdress secure, you still need to ensure that you wrap it into the design or style that is appropriate, depending on the occasion. For weddings, the style should be such that the right-hand side is raised slightly on the front, as compared to the left-hand side. For this reason, you should proceed by sending the next few wraps to your right in order to elevate it.

Once you are done with the elevation, you should finish up with the turban wrapping by creating a fold and covering it vertically. In effect, the headdress should tilt backwards, owing to the circular movements from your left-hand to the right-hand side. Make sure you leave out two feet at the end, which will be used for securing the wraps horizontally.
