Important Information Related To Memoirs Ghostwriting

By Mark Hughes

When it comes to writing, there are a number of different areas in which an aspiring writer can work. In one case, this involves memoirs ghostwriting. For, while an individual may have a number of stories to tell with regards to life experience, there are often a number of ghostwriters whom know how to make these stories more interesting and informative to readers.

While individuals can often work as freelance or independent ghostwriters, most do not make as much as those working for companies. For, companies often charge thousands upon thousands of dollars for ghostwriting an individual's memoirs. Whereas, in cases of famous individuals, the rate is often higher. As such, when desiring to make a living, it is often best to work as part of a service rather than as a freelancer.

In most cases, those working for companies earn an annual salary. Whereas, those working freelance can charge an hourly or bulk rate based on the project. In most cases, authors and individuals will pay between $25-50 per page per project. While this is a good rate, individuals must keep in mind that when working in this fashion, there are often large gaps between projects.

When working as a freelance writer on a project of this nature, it is always important to request a deposit. In addition, if being paid on an ongoing basis during the process, it is often best to ask for cash payments or have money wired directly into a bank or online payment account. In doing so, the freelancer can often avoid issues when it comes to bounced checks, return fees or stop-payments on an account.

Since fees are quite high for this service, those hiring these individuals are often advised to do a background check, read reviews and ask for references. In addition, it is often best to hire a service or individual when originally writing the memoirs.

While many writers are great at providing this service, this is not always the case. As such, if an individual needs to make a change to a different writer, it is often much easier to do so at the end of a project rather than at the beginning. In order to avoid this issue, most authors request writing samples before working with a ghostwriter.

When working together, the individual can better monitor the project on an ongoing basis. For, while some ghostwriters are incredible at writing the stories of others, this is not always the case. When this is the case, it is a situation better caught at the beginning a project rather than after several chapters or the entire book as been completed.

Authors and individuals requesting this service need remember that a ghostwriter is just that, a writer whom is ghosting the author's written words. As such, it is important to be open and flexible to the changes which one makes as part of the process. At the same time, there will always be areas where an author or individual requires revision. As such, ghostwriters must also be flexible with regards to requested changes and revisions throughout the process.
