Forming Short Plays For The Classroom

By Tammie Caldwell

As a teacher, it is your job to make sure that your students would be able to learn wholistically. Keep in mind that if you would limit them to what can be found in their textbooks, then they would never be prepared for real life. If that would happen, then you would never feel fulfilled with your profession.

First of all, you will have to make a decision on which materials will bring fun to your classes. If you are teaching a novel, then you already have your answer for your short plays for the classroom. You can stick with the plot so that you will be able to give out some points that are important to the learning of your students.

Second, you would need to shorten the stories if you have to. Keep in mind that you cannot have plays all week long. Besides, everybody would have to be able to show their talent even if they only have a minimal role. If you would focus on that, then you would slowly gain the love of your students.

Third, you will have to serve as the light of these kids at the end of their tunnel. Take note that they are not born actors. They may even lack the facial expressions in depicting their roles but then, your only role in here is to bring them out of their comfort zone. Make them see that their life will be so much easier if they are confident.

You must be lenient with the practice period. Be reminded that you have grouped students with different personalities. If you will not offer them the time to adjust one to one another, then they will never get to see the same terms. So, promote teamwork to the best of your abilities for these kids to be grateful to you later on.

If they will ask permission to change some of their lines, then provide them with that kind of privilege. Take note that you are not running a training camp in here. If you will bring your strictness to a whole new level, then that can actually be bad for the harmony that you are trying to impose.

You have to promote comprehension no matter what happens. Take note that you are not killing time in here. There is a lesson that has to be learned and that is what should be evident in all of your sessions.

If you already need to evaluate your students, then be kind in the least. Realize that you have asked them to tackle a great challenge. If you will not open your eyes to their efforts, then you will only be discouraging them to perform any better and that is not right.

Overall, try to have all the patience in the world. If you will be that kind of person, then you will never lash out on anybody. That will make you last in your career in a long time.
