Art can be used to tell a story as a sequence of events unfolding over time. Narrative drawings and art employs the power of visual images to evoke emotions, ignite imaginations, and capture cultural aspirations and truths. It has a great ability to narrate stories across different cultures and preserve for future generations.

It call for or requires some knowledge to understand the meaning of this art. It is very complicated to read and understand the ancient pictures since they are usually not organized in a systematic way like the words on a page. They can unfold in many different perspectives at once.

Narratives derive their history back during the history of mankind. There probably would never be people without these narratives. They are very important in learning the origin of man and the evolution to date.

The artists uses different forms of these educative drawings to describe separate type's narrative action. Simultaneous narrative comes with little visually noticeable organization to those with little or no knowledge about their purpose. It focuses on repeatable patterns, there commonly used in cultures which are oral rather literate in nature.

During ancient past, before the introduction of literacy, most of these unique drawings were done with a concurrent descriptive style. With the development of literacy, art has as well developed and pictures were well organized like words on a paper which helped in defining the direction of the story more easily.

These educative or descriptive drawings have held various meanings throughout history, and they have widely been used to tell stories or imply an association. Some artists construct their works like cartoons with two or more panels suggesting a timeline. Other artists place elements within a single panel, often with the meaning unclear. The viewer then must resolve the story or make connections between different elements themselves.

With the dawn of abstraction, artists have started to look at art as a means of personal expression rather than just storytelling. In the past, artists struggled to express their ideas in relation to the universe by using large gestural strokes with paintings on canvas. There have been a development in styles from that time though.

The dawn of technology has brought about great improvements in the field of art. Art has been used in other aspects apart from telling stories. There is a great change compared to the traditional art which focused on a single dimension of descriptive art.

In recent times, narrative painting and sculpture have been used to give a picture of, not only great moments in history, but also domestic dramas of a particularly sentimental nature. Story telling was believed to be best pursued by writers, but also visual artists have proved themselves to do it even better. Modern art can be used in many different aspects in contemporary life.
