A Brief Look At Spiritual Romance Novels

By Christa Jarvis

When it comes to religion and spirituality, it is often a fine line that separates the two. Spiritual Romance Novels often blend aspects of different religions into various titles. Whereas, in Christian based novels, the characters are generally Christian and the church often plays a rather active role in the storyline.

For some, spirituality has nothing to do with religion, for others everything. Depending on the type of story, characters can drift away and back towards God as part of issues within any given relationship. While fiction, these novels often have an avid sense of belief and are often written to spread the so-called word of God.

While most titles related to seeking a spiritual path of enlightenment are non-fiction, a great number of Christian based writings by Christian authors are fictional though some attempt to spread a message of peace, love, understanding and God. Unfortunately, it is not always clear this is where some stories are headed until well into the storyline.

Books like The Way of The Peaceful Warrior, Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, Busting Loose From The Money Game, The Celestine Prophecy are good examples of these type books. The Secret, is an interesting take on success in life through spirituality. Clearly, none of these are entirely fiction, or non-fiction yet most are quite popular in spiritual discussion groups and other realms.

These and other titles can go a long way in helping individuals find a path with which one relates. While in the past, individuals often visited a number of different churches and faiths in order to do so, the internet has now opened up a whole new world when it comes to learning about different religious and spiritual paths. Whether that be within the Christian faith, or a part of a larger neo-pagan identity, generally these books have something to offer anyone who takes the time read one.

An open mind is an important tool when it comes to enjoying a variety of material. For one thing, any book is going to be written in the tone of the author's own belief system. There are those who can write objectively and those whom desire to write about beliefs. The reason for either is generally to spread a message, whether that message may be good or bad, true or false, known or unknown.

Books have been a great escape since the first hit the market many moons ago. While some may have religious tones, others are focused on the sensual and spiritual aspects of marriage and relationship. Others still focus on issues within the nuclear family and can often hold a lot of drama depending on the age of the children included in the storyline.

One of the best places to peruse different titles in the religious or spiritual genre is online. There are a number of different free fiction and non-fiction e-books, many which can be accessed for free. When wishing to read reviews before taking on a title, the Goodreads website is a good place to search and read a variety of reviews and testimonials from other readers.
