Fishing is simply defined as the activity of catching fish. It can be categorized a various ways depending on what area.

Firstly, it can be grouped according to purpose. In here, fishing can either be commercial, recreational and sport. Commercial fishing pertains to one that is dedicated as a form of livelihood. Recreational fishing is basically done as a hobby and sport fishing sees fishing as a form of competition.

Another way to classify fishing is based on the location by which fishing is conducted. It can either be marine fishing or freshwater fishing. Marine fishing here can either be deep sea fishing, surfcasting and netting. Freshwater fishing on the other hand involves angling with the use of angling tackle or pike angling. Also part of this category is trapping.

Aside from the above two classifications, fishing can also be grouped according to the type of fish being caught. Number one on the list is game fishing. This includes fishing with what's referred to as 'game' fish species, namely salmon, brown trout, sea trout and rainbow trout. Game fishing is carried out in bodies of water like streams, rivers and lakes. Second is coarse fishing which is basically fishing of just about any type of fish that resides in freshwater. Other fish species that are caught in coarse fishing are roach, perch, tench, carp, bream, rudd, pike and chub. All these fish species are not to be eaten and have to be returned back to the water. The final kind of fishing based on area is sea fishing which literally means fishing by the sea. Fishes that are mostly caught in this area are the bass, Pollack, mackerel, plaice, cod and haddock.

So those are all the classifications of fishing; you can choose which one interests you most and experience the best hobby ever.
