Usefulness Of Dental Forceps In Surgical Operations

By Chloe Gib

In the medical field, forceps are very useful to doctors and surgeons especially when it comes to gripping things, which are too small to handle or grab using fingers. The equipment is also used in various fields to perform different medical operations. There are two types of dental forceps. One is the exodontias, which are used in removing teeth, and are also referred to as extraction instruments. The other one is the transfer forceps, which is used in moving instruments from the sterilizer to the tray.

There are mainly two designs of these tools. They are hinged devices with a flat surface on its ends which usually come together to hold things or clamp. The hinge can either be found at the opposite end on the flat surface hence making them to appear like over-sized tweezers. You can also get those which are designed like the normal scissors although they lack blades.

These tools are very important in medical operations according to Dr. Misch. Without these tools, it will be hard for surgeons to reach other body parts like the arteries and veins without causing harm to nearby body parts which can lead to complications during the operation.

In the dentist field, the tools are used in different types of teeth. Universal forceps or criers can be used in the maxillary teeth or the upper jaw. Criers are also used in operating on the incisors. As for the cuspids and the premolars, the design of tool used is called bayonet.

Moreover, you can use these tools to stick gauze into the patients open wound. The tool can also be used to put bandages to stop blood flow without harming nearby blood vessels and organs. If you use it on the above mentioned function, you must clean it appropriately using disinfectants to kill germs.

The devices that are made for removing teeth have hooks at the end, so that they can offer a good leverage. The devices ends normally referred to as beaks, fit firmly around the top of the teeth that is being extracted. This operation should not harm the patient's mouth.

As illustrated above, the tools are used by surgeons only. Therefore, one should choose a good surgeon that can perform the operation. This will ensure that you go through successful surgical process. The surgeon should be in a position to handle the dental forceps properly. Make sure that he or she also has enough experience n this field.
