The Conflicts Surrounding Audiophile Speaker Cable

By Laura Gallagher

The ultimate goal of audiophiles is to reproduce the experience of live musical performance at home. There are many brands of audiophile speaker cable in the market today that are claimed to do this when connected to high end speakers. These speaker accessory is said to have many unique features over conventional hangers and connectors.

Basically most of them are manufactured with thick 99 percent pure copper wires. These wires are coated individually then piled into round layers separated from each other with insulating materials. The resulting bundle of insulated conductors is covered with a thick coating to hold them in position. They also have unique features that lessen distortion of the signals they carry by external electric and magnetic fields.

These cables are said to be the only ones that can reproduce all aspects of sound with ultimate clarity. However, this has been an issue of contention between skeptics and the makers. The skeptics claim that the attractive descriptions are mere folly. They see it as the traders' way of advertising.

The skeptics claim that they find no disparity in quality of sound from these cables and the common hangers. In an attempt to prove this allegation, a few of them have tested them before audiences. They proclaim that the people found no difference when the two types of cables were used interchangeably.

The price has also been challenged by some critics. They think the speaker accessory is still high-priced even if it has the qualities it is claimed to have. They view it is a clever way to capitalize on the peoples love for fashion. The manufacturers defend themselves by saying that the production process is also expensive.

These disagreements are far from being resolved. However, the audiophile speaker cable is bought in large numbers all over the world despite the contention that surrounds it. This may imply that people actually find them to be worth the price or that they are bought just for prestige.
