The Many Uses Of Printed Labels

By Debra Hayes

Whether or not you pay attention to them, there are printed labels everywhere you go. They are on shipping packages and envelopes, food, drinks and even on doors and desks. They are looked at hundreds of times but no one really considers the significance of them.

This article will enlighten you as to where to look for a label and what they stand for. Although you read them many times a day, it probably does not even register that they are a label put there for a reason.

When most people hear the word label, an old fashioned label maker. These items allowed the user to make a label by choosing the letter or number and imprinting it on a plastic piece with an adhesive on the back. It could be put just about anywhere that had a hard surface.

Although those label makers do a good job, technology has made it even better. You can find printing paper and design any label you want to. You can make them match the decorations in any color you choose and any font you like.

They are typically used on packages that need to be shipped. Most of them have a bar code so that a trained technician can use a scanner on them to see where they are from and where they are going. Without shipping information, packages would not make it to their destinations.

Another very important way labels are used are on foods and drinks. These are often read and can inform the consumer many different things about the product. It tells the nutritional value, the calorie count and what kind of ingredients are used to make the product. The most important about those kinds of labels is the fact it lists ingredients a lot of people are allergic to.

Many offices use them to keep files and accounts straight, especially medical offices. Although computers have helped to control accidental prescriptions and messing up of patients, they are still used in some forms of medical coding. Many times, gloves and other necessary items used in medical offices will be labeled for faster locating in case of emergencies.

Medical offices are not the only type of office that uses them. Many other offices and businesses use them to help customers and clients find the exit and bathroom.

Everywhere you look, there is some type of label or sign. Even at the gasoline pump. If they did not have the different grades of gasoline labeled, you would not know which is which. If you put diesel fuel in a car that uses unleaded, and vice versa, you will soon have mechanical problems.

Finally, labels can be a big a help in organizing and keeping a home as clean as it can be. When anyone wants to know where to find an item or put an item in its proper place, they will easily find the right spot to return or keep the product.
