By Steven Long

You observe someone standing in the middle of a room, his face obscured by a wraparound headset and his hands enclosed in data gloves. He seems to be looking everywhere at once and walking zombie like with his hands outstretched, as if touching something only he can see. To you, he may seem unhinged. But him, he has been completely transported to another dimension, in a world called virtual reality katy tx.

Virtual reality is its own definition. The first part of the twosome establishes that it doesnt exist in the physical world. It is artificially contrived and exists only in the mind. Reality implicates the multisensory input received. The visual, auditory, and tactile or haptic sensory overload makes the experience seemingly true to life.

Virtual reality environments are actuated through a head mounted display that provides a 3D visual experience and stereo sound. To heighten the sensations, it also has head motion tracking sensors so that the vision will accordingly adjust depending on where youre looking. Moreover, this also features a lens insert for those who need prescription eyeglasses. There are also haptic gloves that transmit virtual sensations and touch. This equipment enables a person to look around, move around, and interact with the virtual features and items in the artificial world.

VR is a singular invention and a prototype of its kind. Its not even comparable with films, movies, and the highest definition stereos since they can be accordingly put and fixed to perspective. Virtual reality is the merging of the physical and the virtual world. You will still be aware of your position in space and time, but your sensations are accordingly warped by fantastical sights and sounds provided by the equipment. After all, VR can be machinated to emulate a world where the laws of physics dont exist.

VR, on the other hand, is an altogether visceral and sensational undertaking. No matter how much you bank on your rationality and good judgment, you will still be completely drawn in the experience. The real and the artificial will be so closely entwined that you wont be able to tell where one begins and the other ends.

That brings us to the various applications of VR. In the medical and psychotherapy world, it is being used to target various disorders such as phobias and PTSDs. Whether youre scared of heights, spiders, or enclosed spaces, virtual reality has the trusty ways and means to expose you and gradually detach you from your fears.

The most widespread use, evidently enough, is in entertainment. From battling aliens in outer space to embarking on a quest in a South American jungle, VR is the name of the game. There are also racing simulator games where you can buckle up in a Formula One racing car and speed on famous courses from around the world. You can play radar sports from golf, tennis, baseball, football, and pretty much anything you can think off.

In the business world, VR is used in architecture and real estate to show clients around a site or some such places. Most importantly, it is utilized by pilots and surgeons in training. This is a handy way to practice a craft without having to worry about the risks and corollaries.

Virtual reality is the new reality. It proffers benefits galore. But it is also pretty much intuitive that, when not managed properly and responsibly, it can give more bane than boon.
