By Ryan Mitchell

It is important that we mind our behavior at all times, good behavior shows the level maturity a person has. When newcomers are attending Broadway shows New York City, most of them are not sure how to conduct themselves while the show is on. Being at Broadway is not the same as going to the movies theater, they are much quieter and one needs to be extra careful not to make any distractions for maximum enjoyment. The performers entertain live hence any misconduct will be disrespectful to them.

The most disregarded rule by most show lovers is switching off the phone. It should be the first thing that an individual needs to do when you get to the venue. This is because when the show is in progress the ringing sounds of the phone in the room can be very distractive. In the extremely quiet environment, the ringing tone could distract the whole arena. It is very disrespectful to distract the performers who put so much energy rehearsing the plays to entertain you. Switching off the phone ensures such distractions do not happen.

The phone has another distraction and it gives more validation as to why one should shut it down. The room is mostly dark and the only lit area is the stage. When one keeps texting or surfing the internet, the light produced by the phone could be a distraction. It is very irritating when you are the only person lighting up the phone when the only place that should have lights is the stage.

One needs not to go in with food and junk during a live show. Munching of foods such as crisps causes noises which are very distracting to your neighbors. An individual needs to eat his or her dinner before going to the arena, not during the show. A person ought to visit the lobby and get a fast bite of your favorite snack during the break.

A Broadway theater is usually very quiet, the talking is left to the performers. It is, therefore, advisable that a person refrains from talking as the show progresses. Occasional whispering can be tolerated but the making loud comments are disturbing to the people in attendance. One should let the other people enjoy what they came to see.

Musical plays are very interesting to watch. One can be tempted to sing when the plays are going on. As much as the temptation is easy to fall into, one needs to refrain from it. Singing along is irritating to the show lovers who paid for expensive tickets top come watch the actual performance.

There is no serious dress code for the opening nights, you are allowed to dress as you wish. It only advisable to keep warm to avoid being affected by the air conditioners that may be cranked up during the show. Broadway shows are to be enjoyed so the code should be casual.

For big shows, the arena could be sold out. This limits the movement of people in the hall. Its important that you are mindful of the space of your neighbor. Avoid leaning on them, hogging their armrest, among other things that might be annoying.
