Relating Egyptian History And The Old Testament

By Claudine Hodges

Many scholars believe that the Bible is actually not a reliable source for historical claims because it does not match with Egyptian history. The scholars would actually claim that they cannot seem to find any Biblical character in the sequence of events of the Egyptians. What they failed to notice is that the stories matching Egyptian history and the old testament have to be interpreted correctly in order for them to be visible.

Now the first thing to do would be to take a look at the traditional set of events that are usually found in the books. Now most of them were of course written by Manetho in which many other historians like Josephus and even Herodotus quoted him. However, there are actually not that many real accounts of Manetho and many of the historians who have quoted him have disagreed with each other anyway.

So in order to see how the Bible is related to the history of Egypt, it is important to first take note of Noah. Now had a grandson named Mizraim or Mestraim who was said to be the founding father of all the Egyptians. This is backed up by the claims of the historian Eusebius who stated that after the fall of Babel, Mestraim created Egypt and some of the tribes that came from Babel joined him in order to create the race.

Now one of the most important and crucial things to take note of would be the visit of Abraham. Now according to the Bible, Abraham visited the land of Egypt some time after he had made a covenant with God during the time when there was a plague in Canaan. Now during this time, the Pharaoh of Egypt was the mighty Khufu.

Now one account that would match the two historical books were the pyramid blocks. During the time of Khufu, the blocks that were made for the pyramids were actually not perfectly built and most of them were not perfect squares. This was simply because the Egyptians were not adept in geometry or even advanced arithmetic.

So relating this to the visit of Abraham, one will be able to notice that the pyramids of Egypt had actually become more symmetrical and perfectly squared after the visit. This would imply that Abraham taught the people of Khufu the art of mathematics and geometry. This is proof that the events that happened in the story of Abraham actually matches the events during the reign of Khufu.

Of course one cannot ignore the existence of Moses. Although most people doubt he is real, he actually fits into the timeline of the 12th dynasty Pharaoh Amenemhet III. This Pharaoh had two daughters in which one of the was the foster mother of a Pharaoh that was to become the successor which was actually none other than the Biblical character Moses.

So if one would take a look at all of these accounts, it is quite hard to not take Bible stories into consideration. The reason as to why many people try to brush off the Bible is because they do not accurately check the dates. Because the calendar at that time took a different form, it is possible that scholars could make a mistake.
